Story of Syamantaka Stone & Lord Krishna's Marriage with Jambavati & Satyabhama

Once there was a king named Satrajit in Dwarka. He was a bosom friend of Lord Surya (Sun). Lord Surya gifted him a precious stone named Syamantaka as a mark of their friendship. King Satrajit put the heavenly stone on his neck and walked around the streets of Dwarka. People were astonised to see the radiance from the King’s body. King Satrajit came to meet Lord Krishna. When Lord Krishna saw the precious stone on king’s neck, He enquired about the stone. The king replied that he received the stone from his friend Surya Dev (Lord Sun). This stone has magical powers. It fills kingdom with abundant food grains. It protect the kingdom from enemies. Lord Krishna requested Satrajit to hand it over to Him for the sake of Dwarka people. But King Satrajit said that he could not give the Stone to Lord Krishna as he had already promised to gift the same to his brother Prasenjit. After the meeting with Lord Krishna, Satrajit returned his palace and gifted to Syamantaka Stone to his brother Prasenjit. Prasenjit put the Stone on his neck and went to deep forest for hunting. There a fiery lion killed Prasenjit and acquired the Stone. There lived Jambovaan, the king of bears. He killed that lion and possessed the Stone.
In Dwarka, king got the news of his brother’s death. He thought that Lord Krishna killed his brother in order to get Syamantaka Stone. This rumour spreaded in Dwarka. When Krishna heard that, he decided to find out the Stone and to reveal the truth. So he entered the deep forest. There he saw dead body of Prasenjit and a lion on the ground. There were foot marks of bears around those bodies. Krishna followed the foot prints and reached the cave of Jambovaan. They got engaged in a fearsome battle. Jambovaan received a heavy blow from Lrd Krishna and sustained fatal injury. Then Jambovaan came to know through meditation that his opponent is none other than Lord Krishna, incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Jambovaan surrendered before Krishna and requested Lord Krishna to marry his daughter Jambovati. Lord Krishna agreed and married Jambovati. King Jambovaan gave Him the precious stone as marriage gift. The newly married couple returned Dwarka. Lord Krishna revealed the truth to King Satrajit and people of Dwarka. Then He returned the Syamantaka Stone to Satrajit. King Satrajit regret for his misinterpretation. He requested Krishna to marry his daughter Satyabhama. Krishna agreed with this proposal. He married Satyabhama. Satrajit gifted Him the precious Syamantaka Stone as marriage gift. But Lord Krishna refused to accept it. He requested Satrajit to keep it so that it would bring fortune to his kingdom.
