How Mohan Das became Mahatma Gandhi: The Beginning
It was 1891. After successfully studying law in London, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi returned to India. After returning to India, he tried to enter the legal profession. Despite many attempts, there was not much success. At that time, in British South Africa, Abdullah Haji Adam Jafari was a very famous businessman. He was known as Baba Abdullah and his company was known as "Baba Abdullah & Co". But he was not at peace because of business disputes. Once the dispute reached the court. Baba Abdullah faced difficulties to contest his case in Court. He was a resident of Gujarat. But he was not very proficient in English. As a result, He had to struggle to explain his case before the British Judge. So, he was looking for a lawyer who could explain business disputes in his own language and who would answer questions in court about those disputes in English, and then he found Mohandas. Mohandas was Gujarati. He studied law from London. So he thought Mohandas was the right person to fight his case. Mohandas was appointed as his firm's lawyer for a reasonable fee.
